| SAVVY TRAVEL TIP |
Call a Doctor
With all the conferences that physicians attend, it is not surprising that they get to meet other physicians from a wide variety of places. Networking, always a real draw at a convention, is a great way to meet doctors who have the same medical interests as you do, but it also a great way to unearth valuable dining and travel tips. The next time you travel, take out those business cards and see if you can reconnect with a colleague who may be able to give you the best information about their hometown. It’s a great excuse to call or e-mail, could reward you with a great new place to eat or visit and it can also aid you in your professional life as well. Just remember to return the favor the next time a doctor calls you!

Harry Potter Attraction Opens at Universal Orlando Resort

The long-awaited “Wizarding World of Harry Potter” opened at the Island of Adventure theme park at Universal Orlando Resort, much to the delight of fans who love the mythical world created by J.K. Rowling. This marks the largest addition to Orlando’s theme park scene since the 1998 opening of Disney’s Animal Kingdom, and it is big news indeed. Visitors can expect to be enthralled with a beautifully recreated Hogsmeade Village, themed shops and restaurants, and a tandem roller coaster that careens at 60 miles per hour for half a mile. The park’s attractions also include the “Flight of Hippogriff,” a slightly tamer ride for the younger set, and a ride called “Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey,” which combines live-action, robotic technology and filmmaking to tell an exciting story that introduces the well-known and best-loved characters from the book series. Universal is currently offering a package that offers a family of four a four-night stay at one of their on-site hotels, including Loews Portofino Bay Resort, Loews Royal Pacific, and the Hard Rock Café. Check out details at www.universalorlando.com.

DINING IN DENVER |

1515 Restaurant
One of Denver’s busiest dining neighborhoods is LoDo, and one of the best restaurants in that district is 1515 Restaurant, a favorite dining choice that offers contemporary American cuisine and consistently excellent presentations. Chef Chuck James presents a “socially responsible” menu using local produce, local meats, and herbs grown on site. Highly rated for their Kobe beef burger, the kitchen here turns out five- and seven-course degustation menus that encompass the local favorites—beef and buffalo in season—as well as fresh seafood flown into the city. Try the seared diver scallops or the barramundi with duck ravioli served with asparagus, or test the buffalo strip loin, served with slipper lobster, arugula gnocchi, artichokes, and cherry tomatoes. Dessert is fun; try the molecular root beer float, made with liquid nitrogen mascarpone ice cream and house-made root beer (1515 Market Street; 303-571-0011; www.1515Restaurant.com). |
