Rare Chagall in New York City
A collection of rare lithographs showcases the achievements of Marc Chagall (1887-1985) and examines his lifelong fascination with the Bible. More than 100 etchings, lithographs and a celebrated oil painting are on view starting October 7, 2008 at the Museum of Biblical Art in New York City. “Chagall’s Bible: Mystical Storytelling” will be on view through January 18, 2009. His “Quai de Tournelle,” created in 1962, reinterprets the Crucifixion from the perspective of a Russian Jewish exile and is exhibited in this country for the first time. A special lecture series at MOBIA, located at 1865 Broadway at 61st Street, in October and November explores the artist’s life in depth. Visit www.mobia.org details. |

| SAVVY TRAVEL TIP |
Thinking Green

Travelers can have a great impact on protecting the environment with some very simple actions, some transported from home but just as useful on the road. Bring your own water bottle or coffee mug on a road trip and refill it along the way. Make use of reusable containers for biodegradable soap and shampoo and bypass the hotel’s containers. Investigate public transportation at your destination ahead of time and use it. Bypass expensive, gas-guzzling taxis and use the local transportation system whenever possible. If you can, coordinate with a colleague for the next convention to share rides if taxis are a must. Small actions, big payoff.

Germany’s Holiday Charm

Travel to Germany during the pre-holiday season and you will be astounded by the sheer number of traditional Christmas markets that await you. From the large cities such as Munich and Nuremburg to the smaller enclaves of the country, there are 2,500-plus festive marketplaces that brim with holiday spirit. Stuttgart’s popular market is one of the oldest and largest, held in the courtyard of the old castle and the baroque grounds of the New Palace. The beautiful medieval city of Rothenburg on the Romantic Road in Bavaria is home to a lively Christmas market within its old city walls. The UNESCO World Heritage town of Wismar, once a powerful city in the Hanseatic League, hosts its own lovely marketplace with a special children’s section. Spago
The best outpost for California cuisine in Las Vegas is
Wolfgang Puck’s Spago, really two restaurants in one. The first, the café section, is best for people-watching and the signature pizza, and it faces Caesar’s Palace Forum Shops. The second more formal dining room inside is where serious food lovers head. Chef Eric Klein creates a menu that is considered to be among the top choices in the city, with an emphasis on fresh seasonal ingredients. Serving until 10 p.m. nightly, this relaxed spot has been a long-standing favorite. Pop art on the walls, an open kitchen and friendly service make this the place to go (3500 Las Vegas Boulevard; 702-369-6300; www.wolfgangpuck.com).
